Whoops...

Sorry it's been a while. I've been caught up in the whirlwind of Shanghai.

Here's what I've been up to:

1. Asking a third grader to "write an excuse note" so that I could get a discount on a pub crawl.

In case you can't read it: "Dear Ellen, Branden is not going to be here when WAP starts. He has to go to a very, very important dentist appointment. He has a bunch of cavities and needs braces, you know. -Johnny"

You know, funny stuff.

2. Going to a fancy restaurant called "Table No. 1" for Shanghai Restaurant Week, in which participating restaurants had special lunch and dinner deals. For about $17, I got a starter, entree and dessert at one of the classiest restaurants I've ever been to.

Mushroom, brocollini, garlic, radish and CHEESE!

3. And of course, the Death Cab for Cutie concert. My friend Cheryl clued me in several months ago for this event and we purchased tickets as soon as they came on sale.  They played at the same theater that houses the incredible acrobat show with an amazing Titanic tribute. If you come visit me, I'll make sure and take you.

I knew it was going to be good when I saw this sign at the entrance:

ROOOOOGUUUEEEEE!

That's right, Rogue Ales has made inroads into China! I see it at the import store, at my fave hipster bar Bikes and Friends, and now at the Death Cab concert. So great. Then I saw all these people in plaid with ironic mustaches and tight-fitting pants, and I knew I was home. The size of the venue was comparable to McDonald Theater in Eugene, too. All in all, a warm and fuzzy experience that left me a bit homesick.

Ben Gibbard and co. rockin' out.

Cheryl walked right up front to take a few photos.

Blurry yet appropriate concert photo.

4. Getting made-over by Lydia before the concert. It was like being in middle school again, with girls getting excited about getting dressed up and "doing MAKEUP!" She did a lovely job and it was a pleasant roommate bonding experience.

Taking narcissistic photos of Lydia's gorgeous makeup skills.

So...that's what's up.
